What I do want is to make sure I have mined Scripture for the fullness of what it meant to the Jewish people for whom it was written in antiquity, and then find how this applies to our lives now. I love history too much to just take at face value what I heard in a sermon or in kids' Sunday school classes back in the ’80s (which, by the way, I LOVED!
